Studio 20th Century Fox Television is searching for a new home for Tim Allen’s show “Last Man Standing”.
In an interview for Variety on Thursday the studio presidents Jonnie Davis and Howard Kurtzman stated that ABC’s decision to end the show came as it surprise to them. They stated:
“That’s the one that’s really an open sore right now,” Davis said. Kurtzman added, “We really were expecting a pickup. The fact that we didn’t get a pickup was a surprise and a disappointment. I think no one was more disappointed than Tim Allen, such a huge star with such a huge following.”
The show which was ABC’s second most-watched comedy behind “Modern Family”, it seems it not ending after all. When asked if “Last Man Standing” would be shipped to another network, Kurtzman responded: “We’re starting to explore that. If it’s not going to go forward at ABC, of course Jonnie and I are hopeful that we can find another home for it.”
“Lat Man Standing” is facing a challenging search of a new home. After six seasons, costs for the show are definitely higher than those for younger multi-cam comedies.
Other streaming services have been successful with multi-cams, like Netflix with “Fuller House” and “The Ranch.”
The studio is supported by its viewers and that has been encouraging for him, “We know how passionate our fans are, and we’re seeing that now,” Davis said.
The conservatives loudly expressed their disappointment over the show’s cancelation.
Tuesday ABC’s entertainment president Channing Dungey stated “Once we made the decision not to continue with comedy on Friday, it was just kind of that’s where we landed,” denying the speculations that the show was canceled because Allen was vocal supporter of Trump.
By its sixth season at ABC, “Last Man Standing” had a 1.2 rating and 6.4 million total viewers, according to Nielsen live-plus-same day numbers.
